Happy Memorial Day!

Monday, May 27th, 2013

Every year on the final Monday of May, citizens of America come together to honor those who have served our country. Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day came to prominence after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen soldiers on either side. Although its origins are somewhat ambiguous, it has always been about bringing people together to recognize our country’s military personnel and history. We want to take this opportunity to thank all the men and women who have served our county.

Memorial Day also marks the beginning of summer. We hope that you have a wonderful day off, and that it is a great start to your summer!

If you need air conditioning service in Lutz this summer, we are here to help!

Air Conditioning Repair Tip: Why Your Fan Won’t Blow

Monday, May 20th, 2013

Are you having difficulty keeping your home comfortable this cooling season? If so, then there might be a problem with your fan. There are actually two fans in your system, one inside and one outside and both play critical roles in the operation of your air conditioner. You simply can’t expect energy efficiency and performance without them. But when something goes wrong with your AC, you shouldn’t immediately begin tinkering around inside the units. It’s important to understand that the majority of routine maintenance as well as all repairs should be carried out by a professional technician. We’re going to discuss a little bit about why your fan won’t blow in today’s post. Call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling today if you’re in need of Tampa, FL air conditioning repair services.

As already mentioned, there are two fans in your AC system, an outdoor exhaust fan that works in concert with your condenser coils and compressor to dissipate the thermal energy drawn from your home. The second fan is even more critical, and is usually the one meant when someone claims that his or her fan won’t blow. This is the indoor blower that is part of the air handler. It is responsible for distributing cool air throughout your ductwork. If it breaks down, then cool air simply won’t be able to reach your interior living space.

There are various reasons why your fan won’t blow. For one, there might be a mechanical problem. Your blower motor has moving parts and requires lubrication to alleviate the stress and strain caused by friction and heat. But if its bearings dry out, it may stop working entirely. There may also be an electrical malfunction in the system. As you well know, your AC requires a steady stream of electricity to its various components, but if this supply line is damaged in some way, then it may simply not turn on at all.

These are just two reasons why your fan won’t blow. But air conditioning systems are complex, so it’s important that any repairs be taken care of by a professional. Call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling today for comprehensive Tampa, FL air conditioning repair.

Air Conditioning Repair Tip: Signs of Leaks

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

You rely heavily on your home’s AC to bring you cool, crisp, refreshing air all day long during the long hot summer, and that’s why it’s critical to take care of any problems immediately, as well as enrolling professional routine maintenance. One problem that you may encounter with your air conditioning system is leaks, whether of air or of refrigerant. In this post, we’d like to keep you informed about some of the signs of leaks you should look out for. If you’re in need of comprehensive Lutz, FL air conditioning repair service, call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling today!

Let’s take a look at a few signs that you may have a leak somewhere in your air conditioning system:

  • Warm air: If you notice warm air coming through your ductwork, first check the thermostat to make sure that you’re calling for cool air. If that doesn’t help, then you may have an air leak in your ductwork that is bringing warm air from somewhere within your house (the attic, or crawlspace) or directly from outside into your home. This can be a serious problem, because it makes your AC attempt to compensate for the invasive, unfiltered air, in addition to contributing to your lack of comfort.
  • Inadequate cooling: The refrigerant that circulates throughout your coils and compressor must be at a certain level at all times in order to transfer heat properly. If it falls below this level, then it must be recharged, but that also indicates you have a leak. Your refrigerant circulates through a closed system and does not expend itself during the cooling process. A professional will need to perform a series of leak detection tests in order to find the cause of the leak.
  • Smell: If you find the air coming out of your ducts has a strange smell to it, then it may be pulling in air from another area of your home, such as your attic or crawlspace, or even from the area between your walls. Another sign of a ductwork leak

Make sure you take care of any leaks in your AC before the summer begins in earnest. For comprehensive Lutz, FL air conditioning repair, call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling today!

Our Most Common Air Conditioning Service Calls

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

Here at Ierna’s Heating & Cooling, we know how much you rely on your air conditioning during the long hot summer. With a professional installation and regular maintenance, you can usually steer clear of many problems during the service lifespan of your cooling system. But, eventually there will come a time when you need professional AC repair services. In this post, we’d like to review some of our most common Land O’ Lakes air conditioning service calls. Call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling for superior AC services throughout the Tampa Bay area! We’re always here to help!

  • Land O Lakes Air Conditioning Service It’s hot and my AC won’t turn on: We hear this more than you might think. First, check your circuit panel to make sure you haven’t simply blown a fuse or tripped the circuit breaker. Next, check your thermostat to make sure that it’s definitely turned on and calling for cool air. If neither of these steps works, then there may be an electrical connectivity issue in your AC unit. Alternatively, your capacitor may have failed.
  • My AC makes this weird hissing sound: If it sounds a bit like air is escaping through a small hole, then that’s probably what it is! At a certain stage during the refrigerant cycle, the refrigerant is in a gaseous state. During this phase, if you have even a microscopic puncture in your coils or copper lineset, then you may hear a hissing sound. That is the sound of refrigerant leaking out of your AC unit. It’s not only bad for the environment, but it will also decrease your energy efficiency and significantly reduce your cooling performance over time.
  • I want more control of my AC: If you’re sick of the one-temperature solution of central air, but are otherwise pleased with the performance of your unit, then consider installing a zone control system. Electronically controlled dampers are inserted directly into your existing ductwork so that you can control the temperatures of different zones of your home differently. It’s a great way to add versatility and boost energy efficiency.

These are just a few of the most common Land O’ Lake air conditioning service calls. Call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling for AC service today!

How to Cut Down Costs

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Because of how much we have come to rely on air conditioning in Tampa, it’s no wonder that many homeowners throughout the area are also looking for ways to cut down on energy costs. While we cannot control the cost of electricity in your area, we can help you find ways of using that energy more efficiently. In this post, we’d like to share with you some ways on how to do exactly that. If you’d like more information about air conditioning in Tampa and the services we offer, call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling today!

  • Routinely replace your air filter: Though you may have heard many times about the importance of changing your air filter, don’t take it too lightly. Dirty and clogged air filters can do a number on your AC system, leading to reduced performance levels, increased wear and tear, increased need of repairs, and even premature replacement. During the cooling season, you should replace you air filter about once a month, depending on what it looks like, and the size of your cooling system.
  • Install a programmable thermostat: If you’re still using a manual thermostat, then you’re missing out on substantial energy savings and customizable climate control. Why pay to keep your unoccupied home cool all day long just so you can stroll in after 5 p.m. to a cool home? With a programmable thermostat, you can increase your energy savings without sacrificing your comfort.
  • Enroll in a maintenance plan: There’s no substitute for professional care. When you enroll in a maintenance plan, your home will be in good hands year-round. Inspection, cleaning, and tune-ups are all performed thoroughly and with the attention to detail that professional training and experience permit.

When you’re ready to cut down on your energy costs, get in touch with a technician at Ierna’s Heating & Cooling for comprehensive air conditioning services in Tampa. Call us today to find out what we can do for your home.

Ierna’s Heating & Cooling At Ride for Hospice 2013

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

The 2013 Pasco Sheriff’s Mounted Posse Ride for Hospice was a huge success for all those involved. This year’s expanded event featured a two-day mounted horse ride that raised money and awareness about the Gulfside Regional Hospice. Every day this hospice helps more than 400 patients, with a staff of over 250, and a team of volunteers of well over 500. At Ierna’s Heating & Cooling, we pride ourselves on giving back to the community whenever we can. This was a great cause and we were happy to be involved.

Ride for Hospice 2013The two-day event not only involved the mounted ride, but also featured various events that involved the whole family, even those who could not ride. There were pony, wagon, and swamp buggy rides, a Native American demonstration, nature walk and much more. On Saturday night, people gathered for a large bonfire and overnight camping before the main trail ride the following day. What better way to spend your weekend than by helping raise money to help those in need. Founded in 1988 by a nurse, oncologist, and physician assistant, the goal of the Gulfside Regional Hospice has been to improve the lives of those with life-limiting illnesses. It has since become a leader in premier hospice care in Pasco County.

At Ierna’s Heating & Cooling, we look forward to opportunities such as these so that we can bring the same hard-working attitude to promoting good causes as we do to heating and cooling solutions. Stay tuned to our Facebook for more information about our community outreach sponsorships.
