In the Press: Ierna’s Heating and Cooling in Gaceta Latina News

Air of confidence that is returned to the community

Gaceta Latina | Lutz | Ierna's Heating and Cooling

By Maria D. Barros

Lutz, FL.- It’s true that there are several home appliances which we can do without, but in the sunshine state when it comes to well-being, air conditioning is a priority due to the high temperatures and relative humidity in the summer months.  Homes and buildings are designed based on the continuous operation of the equipment thus working at full capacity 365 days a year.

According to Charlene Ierna, Vice President of Ierna’s Heating & Cooling, a leader in repairs and sales of air conditioning systems in Tampa Bay, the average life span of an air conditioning unit varies between 5 and 7 years according to the care received, taking into account that the minimum routine maintenance should be carried out twice a year, while the filters should be changed at least once a month, without forgetting that the malfunction of the unit makes your electric bill increase.

In other words, the maintenance of your air conditioning will avoid the discomfort caused by the heat, humidity, and the pesky mosquitoes that are in the home or workplace, saving around 3-4 thousand dollars in the long term.

Definitely, one has to hire service that is guaranteed and this precisely is the work of Ierna’s Heating & Cooling, who has been on the market providing weatherization services for homes, manufactured homes, light commercial and new construction in the Tampa Bay area since 2003 when spouses Ron and Charlene started the business from a room of their home in Lutz. Year after year their business grows, thanks to the excellent professional service based on educating the customer by giving an honest diagnosis and their philosophy of building their business by creating long term lasting relationships with their customers and the community.  These nine years with 26,000 satisfied customers, Ierna’s Heating & Cooling has acquired four companies of HVAC, including the most recent acquisition of Armor Air Heating & Cooling of Trinity.  Adding about 6000 customers, has increased its workforce to 44 employees, with a fleet of 21 trucks on the road every day, and the recent acquisition of a remodeled and modern site (old Lutz Bank) located just a block away from its current location in Lutz planned to open on January 1,  2013.  All these facts make Ierna’s Heating &Cooling the largest contractor throughout the Tampa Bay area, serving the counties of Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk.

Ierna’s Heating & Cooling offers repair service, installation and preventative maintenance for heating and cooling for all makes and models, at $29.95 (about $ 50 in savings).  It is considered the most economical in the market because it includes complete checkup and cleaning of 21 points with the visit of the technician the same day and 24 hour service for emergencies with your HVAC system at any time of day.

Besides selling brand new Bryant systems, they also offer financing plans and maintenance and spare parts sales, ducts cleaning, air purification systems and electric generators.

“We guarantee the service the same day, and the next day if we do not have the part” Charlene said.

How Ductless Mini Split Systems Work: An AC and Heating Guide

Monday, December 17th, 2012

There are a lot of different home heating and cooling options on the market, and they all have their own unique perks. If you are looking for a new heating and air conditioning system in Lutz you may want to consider the installation of a ductless mini split system. This heating and air conditioning option has many advantages to offer that can help keep everyone in your home comfortable efficiently. Contact Ierna’s Heating & Cooling for more information about the installation of ductless mini splits in your home.

The main change that ductless mini splits offer your home is the fact that they do not depend on bulky, often inefficient ductwork to disperse heated and cooled air. They still feature an outdoor unit housing the condenser and other noisy components. Individual wall mount air blowers are installed inside, and the indoor and outdoor components are connected by a simple conduit. This conduit contains refrigerant and power lines, as well as a drainage line when necessary.

The individual wall mounted units can easily be controlled independently with the installation of multiple thermostats, making zone-controlled heating and air conditioning simple. This is a great benefit for both the comfort and convenience of everyone in your home. If you are in the kitchen cooking a big meal and the kids are in the living room you can lower the heat in the kitchen, taking advantage of the heat created while cooking, and still keep the kids warm and cozy in the other room. There will be no more arguing about the heating or air conditioning settings come bedtime. Simply let everyone set their own room to their own comfort needs.

The installation process is a lot quicker and simpler than the installation of a forced air system as well. If you are interested in having a ductless mini split system installed in your Lutz home, contact Ierna’s Heating & Cooling today. We are happy to discuss your options with you.

Heating FAQs: The Most Common Heating Repair Questions

Monday, December 10th, 2012

If you have heating questions for the Land O’ Lakes heating experts at Ierna’s Heating and Cooling, call us any time. We’ve also taken a moment to put together some of the most common heating repair questions that we get from our customers.

Why do I need a tune-up once a year?

We recommend scheduling a heating tune-up with Ierna’s Heating and Cooling once a year and before the heating season begins. This helps to prevent any problems or repairs during the colder months when you need your heater the most. Keep in mind that you should hire a qualified HVAC technician to perform any professional tune-ups to ensure that the job is done right the first time.

Why should I clean my furnace room before a repair?

Whether your furnace is in a basement or utility room, it is important to keep the area around the furnace free of debris and dirt. Clearing away storage items will also help make the equipment more accessible for repairs or an annual inspection.

Why should I not cover the outdoor unit of my heat pump system in the winter?

Because your heat pump system heats your home in the winter, it still needs to draw in air from outside. This means that you’ll need to ensure that there’s adequate airflow. Covering your outdoor unit would prevent that. It’s also a good idea to make sure that nothing else is blocking the unit and to clean the outside if it looks dirty. Dirt can clog the system and cause a number of problems that could potentially require a repair service.

If you notice any warning signs or issues with your heating system, call Ierna’s Heating and Cooling to take care of all your Land O’ Lakes heating repair and maintenance needs.

Why You Need To Have Your Heating System Installed Right: A Heating Tip

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

If the heating system in your home isn’t installed right the first time, it can cause a lot of problems down the road. At Ierna’s Heating and Cooling, we’ve installed countless heating systems of all types for our customers throughout the Land O’ Lakes area. We thought it would be helpful if we put together a quick list of some of the common signs that might indicate poor heating installation.

Wrong Size Heating System

When we talk about the size of the heating system we’re not referring to the physical measurements of it. We’re talking about the heat output. Heating systems are designed for different sized structures. If your home has a heating system that is too big or too small, it can cause some pretty significant problems. Here are just a couple of them:

  • Inefficient – When you have a heating system that is too big or small, it will have to work harder to heat your home. For example, if you have a furnace that’s too big, it will turn on, quickly heat your home then shut off. A short time later, it will turn on again and do the same. This is called short cycling. It is highly inefficient because of all the stopping and starting—similar to driving your car in traffic.
  • Wear and tear – If you have a heating system that is too small, it will run constantly in an effort to heat your home. Not only is this inefficient, it is also very hard on your equipment. Short cycling is also very difficult for your heating system.

Bad Ductwork

Ducts are an often-overlooked part of many heating systems. It is responsible for carrying all of the heated air throughout your home. Here are some of the common installation mistakes that we see in homes in Land O’ Lakes:

  • Wrong size ducts – Ducting comes in a variety of standard sizes. However, these sizes are not always the best for your particular application. In these cases, you might have ductwork that is too small or too big for your heating system. Similar to the problem of wrong-sized heating system, improperly sized ducts cause the same type of problems.
  • Unnecessary bends and/or pinches – If your ducts were installed poorly, there might be some issues that could be reducing your efficiency and making your system work harder. In general, ducts are installed with the fewest amount of turns. Ductwork should also no pinch at any point. Both of these things ensure that the air takes the easiest path from the furnace to your room. With shoddy ductwork, there might be bends that don’t need to be there and there might be pinches from poor craftsmanship.
