5 Reasons Why Regular Maintenance is Good for Your Furnace: Tampa Heating Tip

Monday, November 26th, 2012

Your furnace is a critical part of your Tampa home. That’s why regular maintenance is so important. We all know that oil changes and tune-ups are a great way to avoid costly repairs on our vehicles. The same principle holds true with your furnace. There are a number of important benefits to regular maintenance that we are going to explore here.

Reduced Repair Costs

One of the biggest benefits to regular maintenance for your furnace is the potential to reduce repair costs. When you have the furnace in your home in Tampa inspected regularly, the heating technician can spot issues early. This will allow them to repair the problem before it turns into a larger and more expensive problem.

Extended Life

Catching small problems early has another benefit: it may be able to extend the life of your equipment. Often, when you let little repairs go for a long time, they take their toll on your furnace and might lead to catastrophic failures. Nipping these little issues in the bud can keep your furnace working for a longer period of time.

Efficiency

Over time, your furnace starts to wear down; moving parts deteriorate and the general state of the furnace declines. This is a natural part of life. But with regular maintenance and tune-ups, the process can potentially be slowed. During regular maintenance visits, the heating technician can replace moving parts like fan belts and lubricate the fan bearings to keep them working well. All of these things add up to a more efficient system.

More Consistent and Comfortable Heat

When you look at the big picture, all of these small fixes and repairs may add up to a more comfortable home and a more consistent furnace. It also has the potential to save you money in the long run.

If you’re interested in scheduling furnace maintenance in your Tampa home, contact the professionals at Ierna’s Heating and Cooling. We have years of experience working on all types and brand so furnaces. We would love to talk with you about how we can improve your furnace. Call us today!

Common Furnace Problems in Lutz

Monday, November 19th, 2012

It’s always comforting to hear the furnace in your Lutz home kick on when you switch your thermostat to heating in the winter. Furnaces are one of the most common heating systems in America. They are reliable and durable systems. But sometimes, like everything else, they break down. We thought it would be helpful for our customers if we put together a list of some of the most common furnace problems that we see. If you’re experiencing any of these issues, it’s probably best to call your local Lutz heating contractor.

Low Air Flow

When your furnace is on you should be able to feel a nice warm flow of air coming out of the register. If you’re only getting a trickle of air, there are a couple of likely culprits.

  • Dirty air filter – This is one of the most common problems in households with furnaces. Your furnace has an air filter that is meant to keep dust and dirt from collecting on the moving parts inside your furnace. If it isn’t changed regularly, it can restrict air flow to the point where your furnace simply can’t push any air to your home.
  • The fan – The fan, also called a blower, inside your furnace is responsible for pushing the air through your duct system and into your rooms. If your fan hasn’t been properly maintained or if it is broken, you might not be getting enough air into your house.

Insufficient Heat

Not getting enough heat is another common furnace problem in Lutz. Here are some of the contributing factors:

  • Pilot light is out – Your pilot light can go out occasionally. But if it starts to happen repeatedly it could be a problem that only a licensed professional can handle.
  • Thermostat – The thermostat in your home is responsible for turning on your furnace when the temperature gets too low. If your thermostat isn’t working properly, it might not be telling your furnace that you need heat.

If you’re experiencing any of these heating problems in your home in Lutz, call the heating experts at Ierna’s Heating & Cooling.

Heating Systems for the Land O’ Lakes Area

Monday, November 12th, 2012

When you live in a warm climate such as the Land O’ Lakes area you may think that an effective home heating system is not a priority. Fact of the matter is, though, that even in warmer climates a dependable home heating system is necessary to ensure your year round comfort. When the temperature drops the memory of the hot, sunny days of summer won’t keep you warm. That being said, there are some good heating options for such warm climates that Ierna’s Heating & Cooling would like to tell you about. If you think that a gas furnace is unnecessary for your Land O’ Lakes area home, consider the following systems for installation. Both offer the benefit of providing both heating and cooling power as well as innovative design and efficient performance. Contact Ierna’s with any further questions that you may have or to schedule installation service.

Heat Pumps

If you are looking for an efficient, environmentally friendly way to both heat and cool your home with one convenient system a high quality heat pump may be the best choice for you. Ierna’s Heating & Cooling offers heat pumps from such trusted manufacturers as Bryant and has years of experiencing with the installation, maintenance and repair of these systems. When you live in an area such as Land O’ Lakes that does not have harsh winter conditions a heat pump is a great home heating option.

Heat pumps, unlike more traditional heating systems, do not consume a fuel source in order to heat your home. Rather they operate according to the heat transfer principle, using just a small amount of electricity to transfer existing heat into your home. By using this ambient heat, heat pumps are able to greatly reduce the amount of energy that you use when heating your home, in turn lowering the amount of money that you pay in heating costs. Plus, a heat pump’s operation is easily reversed, meaning that in the hot summer months it will remove excess heat from your home in order to cool it.

Ductless Mini Splits

Ductless mini splits are another great way to heat your home in a warmer climate. They too offer both heating and air conditioning, making them convenient for year round use. Because these systems do not use ductwork to circulate air throughout your home they are not subject to the energy loss sometimes associated with ductwork. They feature individual air handlers in different rooms of your home, allowing for easy, convenient zone control. This helps you to heat and air condition your home in a more efficient, effective manner.

If you have any questions about these innovative home heating options call the pros at Ierna’s Heating & Cooling. We’ll be glad to share our expertise with you.

Duct Cleaning Tip: Why Clean Your Ducts Before the Heating Season

Monday, November 5th, 2012

There is always a lot to do when winter is on its way. At Ierna’s Heating & Cooling we like to remind folks to have their ductwork cleaned out as well. It may not be something that you do on a regular basis, but professional duct cleaning service can make a big difference in the efficiency, effectiveness and cleanliness of your heating system. Call Ierna’s today to learn more about how duct cleaning can improve your heating experience in Wesley Chapel.

As you use your heating system and it circulates air throughout your home, dirt and debris from that air can deposit itself inside your ductwork. While it would take a lot of matter to block off your ducts it is possible for enough pollutants to accumulate to reduce the efficiency of your ductwork by creating airflow resistance.  Additionally, as your heater circulates air throughout your home it can also circulate that debris everywhere with it. If your ducts are dirty then your heating system can actually disperse dirt throughout your home, lowering indoor air quality and aggravating allergy and asthma symptoms.

Not everyone is going to need professional duct cleaning, but it is important that you schedule it with a qualified professional if your do need it. There are certain circumstances and indicators that your home will benefit from professional duct cleaning that you should be aware of. First of all, if you have had any infestation problems with rodents or insects you should have your ducts professionally cleaned to get rid of anything they may have left behind. If you have never had your ducts cleaned you may want to have them inspected to decide if a cleaning would benefit your home. Even something as simple as owning a pet can lead to debris in your ductwork that would be best cleaned out.

If you are concerned about the cleanliness of your ductwork then it is worth it to have them professionally cleaned. Call Ierna’s Heating & Cooling today if you have any further questions about the professional duct cleaning services that we off in the Wesley Chapel  area.
